As a result of January-August of 2017, there was an increase in GDP

National Statistical Committee held a press conference today morning, during which the results of the social and economic situation of the Kyrgyz Republic in January-August of 2017 were discussed.

According to the head of the division of economic statistics and national accounts of the National Statistics Committee Elvira Isenkulova, the volume of gross domestic product in January-August 2017, according to preliminary estimates, amounted to more than 282 billion soms and increased by 6 percent compared to January-August of last year.

Without taking into account the enterprises for the development of the Kumtor, the gross domestic product in January-August of 2017 amounted to about 253 billion soms and increased by 3.6 percent.

The volume of industrial output in January-August of 2017 amounted to 144 billion soms and increased by 26.4 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The growth in the volume of industrial output is due to an increase in the extraction of metal ores, the release of basic metals, the production of rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products, food products, refined petroleum products and clothing. The volume of electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning exceeded the level of January-August 2016 by 12.2 percent.

In January-August of this year the level of inflation in the consumer sector in the republic was 1.5 percent. The prices and tariffs for tobacco products increased by 19.3 percent and services by 6.0 percent. Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.3 percent. At the same time, in August of this year in comparison with December of the previous year there was a decrease in prices for non-food products by 0.5 percent and alcoholic beverages by 3.9 percent.

The maximum increase in consumer prices and tariffs in January-August of this year (5.8 percent) was recorded in the Osh region, while the most moderate increase was observed in Bishkek (0.7 percent). At the same time, in Osh oblast, in comparison with other regions, the maximum increase in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages (by 5.6 percent), non-food products (by 4.6 percent) and tobacco products (1.6 times), then as in Bishkek - for services (by 8.8 percent).

Main specialist of the Department of Demographic Statistics and Labor Market of the National Statistics Committee Ainur Shakenova presented a presentation on the labor market situation in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2016, noting that according to the integrated sample survey of household and labor budget in 2016, the number of economically active population aged 15 years and over was more than 2.5 million people, the bulk of which (more than 65 percent) live in rural areas. As for the employment of the population, a significant part (about 27 percent) carries out activities in agriculture, about 16 percent in the sphere of trade, 12 percent in construction and about 9 percent in education. The unemployment rate for the last five years has decreased from 8.4 percent in 2012 to 7.2 percent in 2016.

Head of the Department of Statistics of the Consumer Market of the Division of Trade Statistics of the National Statistics Committee Tursunkan Abdyldaeva reported on the development of market services in the Kyrgyz Republic, informing that in 2016, compared to 2012, their volume increased by 1.6 times. At the same time, the share of market services in the past year amounted to about half of GDP. In the total number of economic entities involved in the provision of market services, a significant proportion (more than 96 percent) comes to individual entrepreneurs.
