Kyrgyzstan’s economy grew by 5.6 percent

In January-May 2019, the gross domestic product, according to preliminary estimates, amounted to about 184 billion soms and increased by 5.6 percent compared to January-May 2018.

The volume of GDP in January May 2019 without enterprises on “Kumtor” developing amounted to more than 161 billion soms and increased by 1.5 percent.

Объем промышленной продукции составил 104 миллиарда сомов и по сравнению с январем-маем 2018 года увеличился на 17 процентов за счет роста производства основных металлов (на 47,2 процента), добычи металлических руд (на 38,2 процента), угля (на 19,8 процента), сырой нефти и природного газа (на 15,5 процента), а также текстильного производства (на 8,3 процента).

The volume of industrial output amounted to 104 billion soms and compared to January-May 2018 increased by 17 percent  due to the growth in production of base metals (47.2 percent), mining of metal ores (38.2 percent), coal (19, 8 percent), crude oil and natural gas (by 15.5 percent), and textile production (by 8.3 percent).

Positive trends were recorded in agriculture, where volume growth amounted to 1.7 percent, in construction 5.0 percent, wholesale and retail trade 4.4 percent.

From the beginning of the current year (compared to December of the previous year), consumer prices and tariffs in the republic as a whole decreased by 0.3 percent.

Since the beginning of this year. consumer price and tariff increases were recorded in Naryn (by 0.6 percent), Issyk-Kul (by 0.9 percent), Batken (by 0.6 percent) and Chui (by 0.6 percent) oblasts. At the same time, throughout the country, consumer prices for food products and non-alcoholic beverages have increased,  except city of Osh and Talas oblast. Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased in all regions of the country.

The foreign trade turnover of the Kyrgyz Republic, according to preliminary data, in January-April 2019 amounted to more than 2 billion US dollars and decreased by 2.4 percent compared to January-April 2018, while export shipments increased by 7.1 percent, and import revenues decreased by 5.5 percent.

The volume of mutual trade of the republic with the EEU member states in January-April 2019 amounted to more than 741 million US dollars and increased by one percent compared to January-April 2018. At the same time, there was a decrease in export deliveries by 19.8 percent, while import, by contrast, increased by 8.7 percent. The largest share of the republic’s mutual trade with the EAEU member states was Russia (60.2 percent) and Kazakhstan (38.2 percent).
